Most piezo pickups require a high input impedance. But most bass guitar amps have only a low impedance input – which may results in a scratchy, thin and brittle sound from the piezo. Therefore, outboard buffer preamps are recommended in order to get the best sound from your pickup.
Most amps we offer already have a higher “piezo-friendly” input impedance - an external preamp may be used, but isn't necessary for buffering/impedance matching.
The EDB (Sheer Acoustic Equalizer Direct Blend) is a mega multi-purpose and compact external pre-amplifier box of pro-audio quality. You can completely shape your sound with its five band interactive EQ, switchable input impedance and three way Range Switch which cut unwanted low end tones, below the useable frequency range of the instrument. This cuts body handling noise, unwanted resonances, feedback and bowing noise. Feedback and other resonance problems may be further tackled by a very effective, broad ranging tunable notch filter and a Phase Reverse control.
Inputs are via Mono Jack, Stereo Jack and XLR, via Two Channels, which enable you to blend in an extra pickup, or Microphone and you can plug into them via one or two standard mono jack leads, a jack lead plus an XLR, or a stereo jack lead.
The Input Impedance Switches on each channel, allow you to optimize the voicing for any of the major pickup types, while a huge amount of extra levels can be applied via the Gain controls and additionally by the Master Volume.
Phantom power is also available to Jack In and XLR Inputs, making the unit friendly for use with quality Condenser Mics and Instruments wired with no battery inside instrument, but with active pickups needing powering.
Outputs are via a balanced XLR D.I. out and a line out Jack. If an earth loop is heard causing hum, you may kill it by pressing the Earth Lift Switch. The two outputs also allow you to split the signal, such as between Acoustic Combo amp for stage monitoring and an out front mixing desk.
The EDB can be mounted on its rubber feet, carried with you on the belt clip, or mounted via a mic stand, with an optional bracket. Powering is via two 9v PP3 ( 6F22 ) Batteries, or via plug in DC Power supply.
The “Swiss Army Knife“ for acoustic instrument amplification.
Headway has worked over their popular preamp EDB-1, which is no longer available. Among the new features of the successor, the EDB-2, are: the 5 Band EQ is now assignable to Channel 1, 2 or both; the notch Filter is assignable to Channel 1 or 2; a huge 0-32 dB gain to interface with most mixers/desks etc.; phantom power is assignable to either “ring”, “tip” or “XLR” to power virtually all instrument microphones/pickups; phase reverse is assignable to each channel; 3 way input impedance selector for each channel; Mini jack aux input (for e.g. iPod)
The new EDM1 is the small version of the EDB2. It features one channel, 3-band EQ, 9V phantom power (assignable to "Ring" or "Tip")
The Lehle Sunday Driver is a high end preamp with a convenient compact format. It features JFET-based circuitry and provides two modes of operation, with selection via a mode selector switch with gold-plated contacts:
"D" stands for Driver; in this mode, the signal is amplified, with absolutely no modification, at the input impedance of 1 MOhm, efficiently eliminating losses on the route through leads and effects; the signal remains strong and clear, retaining its full dynamics.
The second setting "S" - as in Sunday - multiplies input impedance by four to 4 MOhm, bringing out previously inaudible details and, as gain increases, imparting to the bass sound a characteristic and unmistakable warmth that has given this preamp its name - the result is a sound "as mellow as a sunny Sunday afternoon" … Even at a 15dB gain setting, the Lehle Sunday Driver always stays clean and absolutely free of background noise, thanks to its studio-standard signal-to-noise ratio of over -100 dB.
With its broad output range of 20 to 100,000 Hz, the Lehle Sunday Driver, powered by a standard 9V (PP3) battery, can be used anywhere, whether as a buffer for piezo pickups, as a cable driver for stadium and other large stages, in complex effects set-ups or as a recording preamp - and not just Sundays!

The Lehle Mono Volume is a volume pedal equipped with a precise magnetic sensor enabling it to operate almost wear-free. This sensor uses the Hall effect, named after Edwin Hall, to measure the strength of magnetic fields. In the Lehle Mono Volume the Hall sensor, which is made in Germany, is accurately calibrated to the built-in magnet and the control range of the pedal. The pedal moves only the magnet, the distance is measured by the Hall sensor which controls a VCA.
Over the entire control range the Lehle Mono Volume transmits the full sound spectrum of the connected instrument. The input and output impedance always stays the same, ensuring that there will be no damping of higher frequencies as with potentiometers.
The volume control of the Lehle Mono Volume ranges from -92 dB to 0 dB - so from a virtually muted level to the same volume. With a potentiometer a gain up to +10 dB boost can be additionally adjusted.
The Lehle Mono Volume runs mechanically extremely smooth and steady, as it is equipped with low-friction bearings of a high-performance polymer, and there is no mechanical transmission of the pedal to other components. By means of an adjusting screw the mobility of the pedal can be modified very precisely.
The input impedance is 2MegOhms, so there is no need for additional external preamps/buffers when used with a piezo pickup.
The Acouswitch Junior is a compact multi-functional tool for musicians who perform on stage with electric instruments as well as with acoustic ones and wish to use the same effects for both with one pedal board. With two separately controllable high impedance inputs it becomes the control center within the electric and acoustic setup. The control over which signal is sent to the PA or the amp remains with the musician, without re-plugging cables. It does not matter whether you're using it for acoustic music only or for a combination of both electric and acoustic instruments, the Acouswitch Junior is designed for both alternatives. The Junior features an active DI Out (XLR) and a line-out jack as selectable outputs. To allow universal usage, the A/B switch can be configured individually, depending on the setup: For example, in one configuration line- and XLR output can be mutually muted, depending on the input being used. Toggling between the inputs is just as possible as mixing them together. For a purely acoustic setup the outputs can be always activated, too. In addition to the 4-band EQ for channel A, the Acouswitch Junior has a serial effects loop, a tuner-out output with mute function and a built-in clean boost effect. Effects loop, mute function and boost can be managed via the mute / loop boost footswitch in various combinations. The proven Lehle True Sound Technology with familiar features like the discrete JFET-input stage, or switching via gold-plated relays make sure that the Acouswitch Junior provides an excellent sound. Internally the Junior also works with 18V, but nevertheless is content with all power supplies from 9 to 15V AC or DC. The extremely robust design with protected controllers and the almost indestructible switching mechanism provide many years of fun while playing with acoustic and electric setups.
The Basswitch IQ DI bass preamp opens up a new dimension in bass pre-amplification and signal routing, offering an “all-in-one” solution for bassists, whether used in stand-alone mode or as the control centre of a pedal board.
German manufacturing and best brand components provide maximum reliability and optimal treatment of the electrical signal from your bass instrument, whether from a magnetic or a piezo pickup. Uncompromising in sound, build quality and flexibility, our high-end bass preamp will prepare you for any situation, be it in live performance or recording sessions.
The Basswitch IQ DI offers a low impedance input and an input with switchable impedance, both with discrete circuit design. If you connect two instruments to input A and B, the A/B footswitch allows you to toggle between the two. The signal from instrument A is routed to channel A and the signal from instrument B is routed to channel B. If only one instrument is connected to input A, the A/B footswitch routes this signal to channel A or channel B. Channel A of the Basswitch IQ DI features a high-end preamp and a four-band EQ, designed for bass instruments, offering bass, double semi-parametric mids and treble controls. The Basswitch IQ DI offers two effect loops: a passive serial loop and a switchable, infinitely variable mixing loop that enables you to go from a completely dry signal, through parallel on to serial looping. A phase inverter switch ensures that any out of phase signals do not cancel each other out in parallel mode. And a Tuner Out keeps the tuner out of the signal path.

The RB-Pro has been designed with the Rockabilly/Slap bassist in mind, in collaboration with slap bass master bassistDidi Beck. You can blend two pickups with the RB-Pro: the bridge pickup SH951 and the fingerboard pickup SH2500 are included with the RB-Pro.
The PJB Briefcase is not much larger than a briefcase, but due to 100W RMS it sounds as powerful as much bigger amps. With only 13 kg of weight, the briefcase is the ideal companion for all double bassists who don't like to carry around large and heavy amps. For tone equalization, there's a 5-band EQ und a switchable Compressor/Limiter.
Very special: the briefcase uses two 12.7 cm (5") loudspeakers, what makes the compact design of the enclosure possible. Another very unique feature is the power supply: you can use it with 220V/110V AC, 12V DC or with an internal rechargeble battery (a 12V DC coiled charging cable is included).
The PJB Amps are manufactured by Phil Jones Bass, a division of AAD (American Acoustic Development). Besides bassamps, founder Phil Jones and his 150 employees design and build loudspeakers and high-end products for home-, car- and pro-audio.

The Flightcase’s enclosure contains four 12.7 cm/5” drivers: two facing up and two facing out. A proprietary 5” NeoPower speaker was developed to be powerful and responsive but at a very light weight. Even, balanced tone that projects up and out for consistent, amazing sound - no matter where you are standing.
Coupled with an all new lightweight 150-watt digital amplifier, the Flightcase weighs in at 11 kg only. The input impedance of 4 MOhm and the very effective EQ section with Lo-Bass/Hi-Bass/Lo-Mid/Hi-Mid/Treble controls make The Flightcase perfect match for Double Bass.
The PJB Flightcase BG-300 has the same design, but more power (250 W) and 6 speakers.
The bass Cub is the smallest bass combo amp I know. Like the briefcase, it has 100 W power and two 5" speakers, but is much lighter and smaller. Two independent channels can accept two instruments or instrument + microphone. It also has a stereo input for Drum machine or I-pod/MP3 player. Practicing can be done with the 2 internal speakers or headphones.
For more volume and power, the powered speaker PB-300 with 250W Power Amp and 6 speakers (5" / 12,7 cm) is the perfect addition to the PJB Flightcase or Bass Cub BG-100. But it can also used with any other preamp (bass buddy, EDB2, Lehle).
Eich Amps are made in Germany by Thomas Eich and his team. Thomas Eich formerly sold his amps under the brand name "TecAmps", but since 2016, his amps are branded "Eich Amps". But the key features stayed the same: classic look, new technology and easy transportability.
LANDO special: Eich amps makes a special, even more double bass friendly version for us. The input impedance is raised to 5 MOhms; external buffer/preamps are not necessary for use with piezo pickups.
About ten years ago, bassist an engineer Rick Jones launched the first series of the Acoustic Image Contra amp. This unconventional design had a cylindrical case and a downfiring speaker, and was developped with the double bass player in mind. It soon became a huge success among double bass player around the world.
Rick Jones continously improves and expands his line of amps. They all have the downfiring speaker in common, which spread the low frequencies omnidirectional and helps the bassist to hear himself better. Acoustic Image amps are available with one or two channels. The two-channel-models Coda and Contra have a docking system: you can slide out the amp unit and use it separately.

Hevos is a small company from the Netherlands, specialized in making amps and cabinets for electric bass and double bass.
The Midget 10″ combo is powered by the 400C combo amplifier. The combo amp has a continuous output of 400 Watts. The amp has 2 separated inputs. Additionally, the pre amp has a mute out to tune the bass inaudible, a phase switch for double bass, a -6 dB switch and a 4 band active tone control with a range of +/- 12 dB. The 400C is provided with all kinds of protection devices, such as a switch-on delay, clip indication, protection against short circuit of the loudspeaker output. At the backside of the amp there is an output for a headphone, a mute out and a symmetrical line out with pre/post switch. An extra Speakon loudspeaker output completes the 400C.
The power amp of the 400C is a class-D type with UcD technics and has a switched power supply. The amplifier delivers its maximum power of 400 Watts at 4 Ohms, so connecting an extra loudspeaker cabinet is possible. The Midget combo can ideally be combined with an extra Midget cabinet without tweeter.
The 400S is an ultra compact amplifier of 7x23x20 cm, with a total weight of 2 kgs. The 400S is suitable for both bass guitar and double bass. Thanks to the application of the newest technics the 400S is completely quiet, even at full power. The class-D technics takes care of the absence of heat dissipation, resulting in a very compact design. The 400S is an amplifier with a continues power of 400 Watts. The 2 inputs have separate Gain controls. This allows you to connect 2 basses at the same time, or in case of a double bass, 2 pick ups. Both inputs have a separate gain control. The led above input 1 is a clip indicator which turns from green into red as soon as the input signal is too high.
Input 1 has a –6dB switch to reduce sensibility if necessary. This could be the case by using an active bass guitar or double bass with separate pre-amp. The use of a separate pre amp for double bass piezo pick ups is not necessairy with the 400S though. Input 1 is also provided with a phase turn switch, which can be useful connecting a double bass with two different pick ups. By means of the switch one puts one pick up out of phase, resulting in a different sound.
The pre amp is also equipped with a mute out to tune the instrument soundlessly. The internal signal is then interrupted and will be available at the mute out to be sent to for instance a tuning gear. The tone control unit is a 4-band type and is very easy to use. The frequencies are 80, 250, 800 and 2500 Hz , +/- 12 dB. The amplifier has been built in such a way that in normal acoustic circumstances there will be no need to use the tone control.
The Midget cabinet speaker enclosures are available with 10" or 12" speakers, and with or without additional slot tweeter. The have the same compact size as the Midget combo amps, and can get stacked.
10" + slot tweeter 750,– €*
10" 640,– €*
12" 795,– €*

Clear and powerful sound – the powered speakers by QSC, a manufacturer spezialized in prefesional audio systems, have as much as 1000 W output power and sound great with the double bass.
Two combo XLR and 1/4" TRS inputs accept both Mic and Line Level input while a set of RCA phono inputs allow additional connectivity to portable MP3 players, CD players and line-level mixers. Up to three audio sources can be mixed internally and summed to a balanced output for "daisy-chaining" of multiple units. Separate direct outputs are also provided on each channel for additional output flexibility.
Accessories (optional): carrying softcase, stand. Model K12 available upon request, too.
Please note: active speakers have a low impedance input and no EQ controls, which makes an external preamp necessary for double bass amplification with piezo pickups.
The ze200 is designed and handmade by German engineer Michael Zadow. His philosophy is: the more knobs you have, the more you try to adjust during a performance … You always think it's not quite perfectly adjusted. Due to its clear frequency response, the ze200 EQ controls can stay in the neutral position in most cases. Nevertheless, the ze200 has a highly effective parametric mid EQ.
The ze200 features a downfiring system: the bass speaker is directed downwards. This results in an omni directional deflection of the low basses. As a consequence the bassplayer can be clearly heard by the other musicians, the audience and of course himself. Middle and higher frequencies are directed forewards via a secondary speaker. The rounded housing with minimal wall thickness, offers superlative acoustic properties whilst being both light and robust. For both optical and practical reasons, the whole of the electronics is locatedin the housing. The ClassAB-Power Amp is designed to cope with 300Watts rms. An electronical limiting circuit cuts in at 200W to protect the valuable speakers from possible damage through overloading. The inherent power reserve of the power amp together with the down-firing system provide the ze200combo’s transparent sound and deep, rich bass.
Phantom power is available as an option (50,–€). This 9V powered input suitable for pickups like e. g. Schertler StatB, Vektor Kontramike and Bassbalsereit Aktiv.
Also available with two chanels (ze200-II)
Schertler started business in 1986 with a double bass pickup. Today, Schertler offers a wide range of pickups, amps and parts for all kinds of stringed instruments. 2012, Schertler launched a dedicated double bass amp, named after “one of the best sounding bassists in the Jazz history” - Scott LaFaro.
A traditional, transformer driven 280 Watts power amp moves a 8" woofer, specially created for this amp with record-breaking long linear extension to furnish strong, clear low frequencies and natural sounding mids. A tweeter, powered with 80 Watts, takes care to smooth and uncompressed harmonics, what is so important for any stringed instrument, such as double bass.
